Color of the Year 2014

Color of Year 2014

2014 has two very well-known companies proclaiming their color of the year to be a shade of purple.

Radiant Orchid is the choice of Pantone which is a global authority on color.  Here is what their website has to say about this coloring: “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.”

And Sherman-William, a company that has been producing paints since 1866 has chosen their color Exclusive Plum.  Here are the descriptions from their website: “Exclusive Plum (SW 6263), a sophisticated violet, is Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2014. The hue, a balance of cool blue and feisty red with a splash of gray, pairs well with a variety of styles to create color schemes suitable for any room.

“This dusky, filtered violet is refined without being stuffy, elegant yet easy, and layered with romantic potential.”
Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing.

I think both shades of color are perfect for decorating your home.  If you are a clematis lovers who has grown lavender or purple clematis you will probably know these colors are very versatile in the garden because they goes with so many other colors.  I have decided in honor of these two winning colors to list below some potential lavender or purple clematis candidates for your garden.  You can find pictures of these clematis in my Queen’s Photo Gallery.

The Clematis Queen’s Dream Color of the Year

I will continue to hope that one year (in the very near future) a variety of my favorite genus will be selected to represent their winning color choice of the year.  How could they go wrong with “clematis” as that there are so many gorgeous colored ones to choose from?  I can hardly wait to read what their captivating description of its coloring would be.  I’ll bet it will be absolutely scrumptious!
